A casino is a place where people can enjoy gambling. It can include various games of chance and skill, including poker, black jack, roulette, craps, keno, and more. Many casinos offer opulent decor and fine dining. Some even feature famous chefs and celebrity guests to create a unique experience for their patrons.
Martin Scorcese’s Casino is an epic tale of mob corruption set in a Vegas casino. While this might not sound like a great movie to watch, this film has much more going for it than you might think. It tells a fascinating story of how the mafia lost control of a city that was minting money in billions and how it was taken over by huge gambling corporations. It also shows the way that Vegas is constantly reinventing itself.
Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci both give excellent performances in this movie, but it is Sharon Stone that steals the show. She is a sultry femme fatale that most men would love to tame. She is a perpetual motion machine, holding and often leading the camera’s gaze. She is a true powerhouse of a performance.
The violence in this movie is intense. The torture of a man with a vice, the attempt to murder De Niro’s character, and the death of Pesci’s character by overdose are all shocking in their intensity. These scenes are realistic though and not merely for shock value or style. They were based on real events that happened to these characters’ real-life counterparts.
